George Strombolopoulos Defends CNN: Comics Don't Have The Responsibility Of News (VIDEO)

CNN Host Defends Network Against Comedians

Canadian TV host George Strombolopoulos said CNN doesn't deserve the flack it gets from detractors, and that's why the network will be his temporary home as he lands stateside with a summer series on Sunday, June 9.

"People love to rip on CNN, but the truth is where does everybody go ... when stuff goes down?" Strombolopoulos said during a visit to HuffPost Live this week. "You go to CNN for a reason."

Strombolopoulos said the biggest adversaries of CNN and cable news in general are comedians, who poke fun without understanding the responsibility that comes with the grind of a daily news cycle. Comics, Strombolopoulos told host Jacob Soboroff, "don't have the onus to be a news bringer every day."

Check out the video above to hear the host's defense of CNN and its executives, including Jeff Zucker, who have been supportive despite the fact that, as Strombolopoulos puts it, "guys like me are not on TV too often." And get a sneak peak at the eclectic batch of guests slated to appear on his first show, including a famous spiritual teacher who Strombolopoulos stuffs in his 1971 El Camino and sends into Memorial Day traffic.
