The George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University is set to be officially dedicated April 25. One activist group plans to mount a series of protesting actions, including a demonstration at the Dallas ceremony itself.
The People's Response objects to what they see as "a monument" to former President George W. Bush, WFAA-TV reports.
The group has spoken out against the center, which will house the presidential archives from the Bush administration, since its inception, according to WFAA-TV. Now the activists feel a demonstration during the dedication ceremony is necessary to get their point across.
"Remind past, present and future administrations that the truth cannot be buried or changed, and warn the public that the same ideologues who crafted the Bush policies of the last decade will be trying to write a script for our future," the People's Response website urges.
Ground was broken for the 225,000-square-foot center in 2010. Bush has praised the effort, saying he hopes that the center will inspire "learning and action."
The dedication is expected to attract a number of high-profile figures, including President Barack Obama.
