George Zimmerman And DMX Will Face Off In Boxing Match (UPDATE)

George Zimmerman's Boxing Opponent Revealed!

George Zimmerman is set to face off against rapper DMX in a boxing match.

Celebrity Boxing promoter Damon Feldman announced in a press release Wednesday, Feb. 5, that Zimmerman will fight DMX in a three-round boxing match. The rapper was chosen after officials sifted through 15,000 other applicants.

"It has been all over the media that DMX wants George, and George[,] who has been training[,] has accepted and will do the match," Feldman said in the emailed release obtained by The Huffington Post. "The match will be one of the Biggest Celebrity Boxing matches of all time."

Feldman is set to hold a press conference Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. in Philadelphia to announce the date and location of the event.

The promoter previously told HuffPost that Zimmerman was interested in boxing Kanye West. It was reported he wanted to take on the "Yeezus" star because of the rapper's alleged transgressions against the "defenseless."

But DMX will be the one to take on the challenge. And he's certainly ready.

The 43-year-old previously told TMZ he wants to fight Zimmerman for "every black person who has been done wrong in the system." Zimmerman was found not guilty for the shooting death of unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

"I am going to beat the living f**k out him … I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him right up," he told TMZ.

Zimmerman revealed to RadarOnline.com that boxing was a hobby even before "the incident." The money from the upcoming event will go to an undisclosed animal rescue group.

UPDATE: 12:54 p.m. -- A representative for DMX emailed HuffPost with a statement, saying: "The boxing match between George Zimmerman and DMX is not officially confirmed. DMX has promised to 'beat his ass,' but no contract or paperwork has been signed or agreed to yet. DMX will release an official statement if and when an agreement is made."
