You'd think a woman who has been on nearly 100 paranormal expeditions would need to be a cool cucumber.
And that's exactly how Kris Williams, one of the stars on the popular SyFy Channel series "Ghost Hunters International" is ... most of the time.
However, there was one time when she was on the edge of her seat -- and all because of Meat Loaf.
Not the dish, silly, the singer, who once participated in one of the episodes.
"I grew up with him," Williams told AOL Weird News. "I knew his music and I loved him in 'Fight Club,' but when I heard he was going to be on the show, I promised myself I wouldn't ask about 'Fight Club,' or 'Bat Out Of Hell.' I didn't think he wanted to hear that. I thought, 'He probably gets that all the time.'"
Oh, but the tables were turned.
"I couldn't believe it," she said. "He was so into the show, he was asking me about particular investigations and what really happened. I thought to myself, 'He's doing to me what I promised myself I wouldn't do to him.'"
Such is the life of one of America's most famous ghost hunters, which Williams has been since she first appeared on "Ghost Hunters" and its spinoff series "Ghost Hunters International," in which she and a team of apparition investigators travel around the world checking out paranormal hot spots.
The show has its season premiere July 13 and takes the team to Britain, Trinidad and Argentina. As usual, Williams was the team member most likely to put on her "skepticals" when analyzing the supposed hauntings.
It's something she relishes.
"I love when we can find a reason to debunk something," she admitted to AOL Weird News. "But sometimes [the clients] seem mad at us. I don't know why. I can't imagine wanting to be haunted."
Williams -- who is often the one given the task of arousing the alleged spirits, hence her nickname "Bait" -- says the upcoming season features a good mix of unexplained phenomena as well as debunking, but says this season required extra diplomacy because the locals' supernatural beliefs were very culturally ingrained.
"In some places, like American Samoa and Trinidad, it wasn't long since missionaries brought new religions there," she said. "That has made a clash between the old and new religions. Sometimes, the local people will blame something on this God or that. It's very confusing, but wherever we go, we want to respect the culture."
One ghost-hunting experience -- not on this season's agenda, but on Williams' wish list -- is the ghost supposedly plaguing Sandra Bullock in London.
Williams is a big fan of Bullock's and would love to meet her and investigate. However, she says there are some very reasonable theories that should be explored before assuming the actress is being haunted by spooks.
"Sometimes, when you're staying in a place that's not yours, you notice every pop and creak, something common with old houses," she said. "Also, she should check if there are animals in the attic -- which could explain strange noises -- and, sometimes, open and closed windows can cause a vacuum effect that causes doors to slam."
On the other hand, Bullock is reportedly staying in a converted church and those have a higher-than-normal chances of being haunted.
"Think about it: Churches host a lot of events important in people's lives, such as weddings, funerals and wakes. Plus, sometimes the ministers are buried there," Williams said. "She should keep a journal to track every strange thing she notices."
To Williams, the most shocking thing about Bullock's otherworldly encounters isn't that she's having them, but that she's freaked out by them.
"She seems like a strong woman," Williams said. "To hear her complain about them is a surprise."
