'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Moved To March 2013: Paramount Scraps June 2012 Release

Paramount has decided to scrap the previously planned June 29th release for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" in favor of a March 29, 2013 date.

According to Deadline.com, the studio made the decision when it realized that spending more time on a "conscientious 3-D job" could dramatically up international box office returns. An unnamed executive cited James Cameron's 3-D work on "Titanic" as a rubric Paramount was following.

Another film the studio is supposedly learning from? "The Hunger Games." That film made a killing with its March 2012 release, and Paramount is hoping it can reap similar rewards.

"Shutter Island" was also moved close to its release date. The picture was bumped from October to February, where it opened to $41 million dollars.

Dywane "The Rock" Johnson, who is in "Retaliation," scored some big box office success of his own with "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," which debuted in February and rang up $324 million overall.

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" also stars Channing Tatum and Bruce Willis. John Chu directs.
