We already knew Gilbert Arenas, the former NBA player who once brought guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, has awful judgment. But the 33-year-old demonstrated it once again in an Instagram post on Wednesday, which featured some clear-cut sexist opinions.
In the NSFW Instagram video, two women play basketball in thongs. Arenas captioned his post, "NOW this is what america was hoping for when they announced the #WNBA back in 1996." We don't think we have to explain what is so offensive about this.
Arenas also said WNBA players look like cast members from the Netflix show "Orange Is the New Black" and called them #beanpies, along with a whole lot of other disgustingly, degrading things.
He then decided to post another one of his sexist hot takes just a few hours later.
When a person has 10+ hashtags in any post, they're either trying too hard or they're saying something incredibly stupid. For Arenas, it looks to be a combination of the two.
So going forward, how about we just not pay attention to anything he has to say? Oh, and go support women's sports, too.
Update, 5:38 p.m.: League spokesman Mike Bass responded to Arenas' comments Wednesday on behalf of the WNBA and NBA:
"Gilbert Arenas's comments are repugnant, utterly disrespectful and flat-out wrong. WNBA players are strong, talented and determined individuals who give it their all on the court and serve as inspiring role models to millions around the world. They should be celebrated for their accomplishments, not disparaged with ignorant insults."
This post was previously updated to include the second Arenas Instagram post.
