'Girl In Progress' Trailer: Eva Mendes, Patricia Arquette Star In Dysfunctional Tale

Eva Mendes Is A Work In Progress

Ah, the joys of a dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship!

She played the classic rom-com "has-it-all-except-love" character in 2005's "Hitch," and she couldn't help tempting a married man in 2010's "Last Night." And now, Eva Mendes is taking on the role of a struggling mother who may just be a tad more immature than her Cierra Ramirez-portrayed teenage daughter in the upcoming film "Girl In Progress."

Examples of Mendes' sub-par mothering skills come across loud in clear in the trailer when she asks how her daughter's "only friend" is doing, and exclaims, "How nerdy!" when Ramirez proudly brings home a chess medal.

Still, she manages to utter the touching line, "Aren't we constantly changing? Isn't that a good thing?" Let's hope so, and hope we find out when the film hits theaters on April 27.
