Mixing friends and work is tricky, especially when your art form is compromised. Just ask "Girls" star Jemima Kirke.
In an interview with Vulture, the Kirke opened up about how she feels when Lena Dunham writes a particularly controversial scene for her character Jessa on "Girls."
"Sometimes it’s a little ... [Groans.] I cringe," Kirke said. "Because I’m like, I really don’t want to have to put that on camera."
As an artist, Kirke was particularly miffed by a scene Dunham wrote for her this season in which Jessa painted her then-husband Thomas-John (Chris O'Dowd).
"I was a little pissed at that moment, when I saw that painting as a prop. I was like, Lena. Come on," she continued, "It’s just a little close to home. And only because I have been vocal about the fact that I make artwork, so I don’t want this to be seen as mine. Not that there was anything wrong with it; it just wasn’t me."
She may not show off Kirke's artwork on "Girls," but Dunham doesn't mind having it tattooed on her body.
"I have a handful of tattoos that I really want to put on people that I can’t find anyone to let me give them to," Kirke told Vanity Fair in April. "Lena let me do one of them, which is like a Yorkshire terrier on her ribcage."
"Girls" airs at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
