Volunteers at God's Love We Deliver

Thanksgiving is one of the most popular days to volunteer and give back to the community, and spots can fill up fast. But if you find you have a couple of hours to spare on and around November 24, we've highlighted five organizations that still have opportunities available to donate, make, and deliver Thanksgiving meals to families in need throughout the city.
Yorkville Common Pantry - 8 East 10th Street, Manhattan
Opened in 1980 as a small neighborhood food pantry, Yorkville Common Pantry now serves almost 400,000 people and is committed to reducing hunger by providing nutritious and balanced food options to those in need. Participate in their Thanksgiving Food Drive by collecting items such as cranberry sauce, rice, gravy, cornbread and stuffing mix, and pasta. The last pick-up day will be Friday, November 18.

God's Love We Deliver - 166 6th Avenue, Manhattan
God's Love We Deliver provides tailored meals to individuals who are too sick or otherwise unable to shop or cook for themselves. They always need help preparing and delivering meals on Thanksgiving Day to these people who might be alone on Thanksgiving and wouldn't be able to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. If you're going to be away on Thanksgiving but still want to help, you can sponsor a Thanksgiving meal through their website by donating $10.

Church of the Intercession - 550 West 155th Street, Manhattan
The Church of the Intercession is hosting their annual Gobble Gobble Give NYC on Thanksgiving Day. Volunteers can either sort donated items, pack meals, or deliver everything to predetermined families at home, in shelters, or in retirement communities. The first shift on November 24 is at 8 a.m. and the last shift is at 12 p.m., and each lasts 45 minutes in order to give everyone a chance to help out.

New York Cares - 65 Broadway, Manhattan
New York Cares, which helps New Yorkers who are facing obstacles like unemployment and hunger, is partnering with Food First's Clinton Hill Branch and the Hansborough Parks and Rec Center for two separate Thanksgiving volunteer opportunities. Food First provides housing for families recovering from domestic violence, and is seeking volunteers to help set up, serve, and cleanup the Thanksgiving meal on November 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Harlem's Hansborough Parks and Rec Center is in need of volunteers to distribute non-perishables and warm clothing, as well as make and serve soup and sandwiches for people in need on November 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

FeedingNYC - Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers, 23rd Street and West Side Highway, Manhattan
FeedyingNYC is helping to support families in shelters on Thanksgiving in two ways. The first way is to adopt a storage box filled with a full Thanksgiving meal, which will be given to a family in need. Each box costs $35, but donations in any amount are accepted and encouraged. The second way is to meet up at Pier 60 on November 22 to pack up and deliver thousands of meals to those in need.
