I've got a thing for glasses.
Ask anyone who knows me - my friends, in particular - they'll tell you. I just absolutely, 100%, love and adore glasses. They're my Achilles heel, if you will.
Take a perfectly average-looking guy -- hey, make it below average -- and if I can see a sultry glare on his glossy lenses, put a fork in me, because I'm done. I just love me some myopia.
And I'll tell you why. I think that there's something special about a man who wears glasses because it highlights an inner confidence. You can pretty much assume, at least in this day and age, that they have actively chosen to wear glasses. They've opted against contacts, they're not down with laser surgery, and they care more about their ability to see than they do about how dorky they look.
And that's exactly it: a man who wears glasses is not concerned about how they look, which tells me they've got a whole lot of something else -- a certain je ne sais quoi -- going on.
And this goes for females as well. Glasses are a fashion statement. They're an utterly easy and utterly original way to accessorize any outfit. You can take the same pair of glasses, put them on one hundred people, and they'll look completely different on everyone. (And hey, if you're a female wearing glasses, you get the added benefit of channeling that whole sexy librarian thing.)
And I know that right about now some of you - well, the few of you that actually follow my posts - must be wondering what kind of "style" writer I am. Tan Is The New Tacky? Frizzy Is The New Fabulous? The Case For Taking Off Your Make-up?? What kind of pale, disheveled, myopic monsters am I trying to create?
Well, the truth is, I'm just trying to encourage people to work with what they've got. Tans are tacky, and frizzy hair is fabulous! It's all about taking your natural attributes and flaunting them, because, at the end of the day, they're what make you you.
You can take a woman, paint her, pinch her, and primp her until she fits someone's specific definition of beauty, but you sure can't make her sexy.
But what can make her sexy? A pair of tortoise-shell glasses, some tousled hair, a punchy shade of plum-colored lipstick as the perfect accessory, and voila!
Case in point, and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words:
Me
And on that note, always remember that a healthy sense of humor is the icing on the cake!
