Goodbyes are never easy, but when it comes to "Glee," Fox wants to keep its farewell short and sweet.
Fox Networks Group Chairman-CEO Peter Rice made an appearance at the TCAs to explain why the popular high school musical show would be ending its run with a much shorter 13 episode order -- originally, the series was slated to have 22 episodes in its swan-song season. The reasoning, despite theories that split story lines and bad played might be to blame for the trimmed pick up, is, according to Rice, because the network wants to send out its hit comedy with a bang.
“I think 'Glee' is one of the great shows in television history, and it was so hot and so big,” Rice said. "It’s been on for over 100 episodes now in six seasons, and we want to go out in a way that celebrates it. And we thought that finding 13 episodes and compacting it and doing it in a straight run was a better way to finish the show.”
Despite dismal viewership -- the fifth season was the lowest-rated of the series to date -- cast drama between stars Lea Michele and Naya Rivera, and the passing of Cory Monteith, creator Ryan Murphy told E! News earlier this year that he's excited to get the group back together again for one last song and dance. "The fun thing about the ending of the show is that there's room for everybody to come back and be a part of it, and I hope they all want to," Murphy said.
