Republican Glenn Grothman defeated Democrat and Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris in Wisconsin's 6th District on Tuesday.
Grothman won a close primary in August to clinch the Republican nomination in the district that opened when Rep. Tom Petri (R-Wis.) announced that he was retiring. He currently serves as assistant majority leader in the Wisconsin state Senate.
Grothman has gained national media attention for fighting for a seven-day workweek, calling Kwanzaa a fake holiday, sponsoring legislation that repealed the state's Equal Pay Enforcement Act, proposing legislation that would have considered single parenthood "a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect" and arguing that public employees shouldn't have Martin Luther King Jr. Day off.
