Jakarta Street Art: MOCAtv Heads To Indonesia's Capital In Global Graffiti Series (VIDEO)

This City Is Alive With Street Art

In this week's episode of MOCAtv's new web series, Global Street Art, the YouTube-based project turns its international lens on the graffiti world of Jakarta, Indonesia.

The video centers on psychedelic artists like Bujangan Urban along with the collective graffiti group known as MediaLegal. Working to bring public artworks to the centers of their local communities, the artists work outside the city's established museum and gallery networks, shedding light on social issues that hit close to home for fellow residents.

"The social environment is pretty diverse. There are many communities that [have] issues related to corruption, pluralism, gender," explains an artist from MediaLegal. "Along with a community or a group, artists pick a vision together then collaborate to make a project using such a theme. In my opinion, this is the effect of street art communities interacting with the [broader] community."

Watch the video above and let us know what you think of Jakarta's bustling graffiti scene. Want more? Check out last week's episode on the street art world of Yogyakarta here.
