When you live in New York City, being gluten free is a breeze. There are countless dedicated gluten free restaurants and bakeries to choose from that are so delicious you wouldn’t know they are GF. This makes the thought of leaving the city and traveling while gluten free a little unnerving. While my international adventures have proven to rival, if not surpass, NYC in terms of gluten free options, going home to Connecticut is sometimes nerve wracking. There is not a lot of awareness about what it really means to be gluten free, and I have had a hard time finding 100% dedicated gluten free establishments.
Luckily this all changed on a recent trip home when my family discovered Pure Love Bakery.
Nestled in Avon Connecticut, Pure Love Bakery is a dream for anyone with celiac disease or a gluten allergy. The bakery is open and inviting, and offers a wide selection of delicious treats. From granola, to English muffins, cinnamon buns, and cookies- Pure Love has it all. They even have some savory options like a vegan tuna salad made with chickpeas instead of fish. I wasn’t expecting the tuna salad to taste exactly like “normal” tuna salad, but it does! Everything at Pure Love Bakery is absolutely delicious.
My personal favorite are the cinnamon buns, they taste better than any gluten filled version I have ever had! The Pure Love chocolate chip English muffins are a close runner up.
Founded by two Connecticut natives, sisters Karen Gauvain and Lynn Seery, Pure Love opened its doors this past summer. Both Gauvain and Seery are so kind and welcoming, and they really make you feel safe in the bakery. As someone with celiac disease, I am always wary of trying a new place but once I learned that Seery also has celiac disease I was immediately reassured.
If you live in Connecticut, are visiting family, or if you’re just driving through, visiting Pure Love is a must!
Thank you Pure Love for making gluten free food so delicious and accessible!
