Golda Poretsky's TED Talk, 'Why It's Okay To Be Fat,' Promotes Loving Yourself And Health At Every Size

'It's Okay To Be Fat'

Being fat is nothing to be ashamed of.

That's the premise of a TEDx talk given recently by Golda Poretsky, founder of the Body Love Wellness program. Poretsky's initiative works with plus-size women using Health At Every Size principles to achieve optimum health separate from weight concerns. Body Love Wellness also encourages women to drop dieting and practice intuitive eating instead.

In the TEDx talk Poretsky recalls how she went on her first diet at four years old, after a classmate called her fat in the playground: "I knew, even then, that being called fat and being fat was one of the worst things that you could possibly be." But, after years of making herself miserable through dieting and weight-loss programs, she came to a realization.

"Maybe fat and thin... don't matter quite as much."
