'GOOD LA' Launches City-Wide Photo Contest

GOOD MAGAZINE and Hidden Los Angeles have started a collaborative effort to tell stories of forgotten LA. Monday afternoon, they launched a city-wide photography contest centered around vintage LA signs. GOOD LA writes, "We want to see the most beautiful and bizarre vintage signs that Los Angeles has to offer." They encourage sending images that have history and aesthetic value. - the signs that stand out to us Angelenos.

The GOOD LA website suggests signage ideas like "the flashy neon of downtown theaters, the weathered vinyl signifying strip malls, the hand-painted letters over pupuserias," but they note that "murals, ads, billboards, and street signs are not eligible." They request images be close to "800 pixels wide (if horizontal) or 600 pixels tall (if vertical) at 72 dpi." Digital submissions are being accepted via Submishmash through June 13, 2011. At that point, they will publish the images and submit them to an online public vote- the winner gets tickets to the Los Angeles Conservancy's Last Remaining Seats.
