"Despierta América" and “Good Morning America” fused together for one day and it seems hosts Lara Spencer and Sam Champion will never be the same.
The two GMA hosts traveled from chilly New York City to the “Despierta América” studio in Miami for Monday’s historic simultaneous and bilingual broadcast of the morning shows that would usher in ABC and Univision’s love child, Fusion network.
While their English-language counterparts danced to the tune of a Mariachi band, “Despierta América” hosts Raúl González and Karla Martínez had their morning coffee with Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Josh Elliot in ABC’s studios. While in New York, González and Martínez had the chance to experience Enrique Iglesias’ first live TV performance of his new single “Heart Attack.”
HuffPost Voces experienced the broadcast first hand at "Despierta América’s” studios and had the chance to speak behind-the-scenes with GMA’s Sam and Lara about their experience on the Spanish-language morning show.
“It was such a joy. I’ve been a fan of the show and I had no idea how much fun it was,” Lara Spencer told The Huffington Post. “You see on TV the energy and the dancing and the camaraderie of this team, but to be in the studio is a totally different ball game. Please have me back.”
Lara’s fellow GMA host also seemed to be in no rush to return to New York.
“Well first of all I love it. I hope you don’t think I’m leaving, because I’m staying. Was anyone thinking that I was leaving? That it was just a one day thing? No, no I’m staying,” Sam Champion joked before describing his experience on the Spanish-language morning show.
"Despierta América" had a full house with Alan Tacher, Ana Patricia González, Johnny Lozada and Sacha Pretto, Chiquinquirá Delgado, Eugenio Derbez, Alessandra Rosaldo hosting alongside Lara Spencer and Sam Champion. Later on, Pedro Andrade, Mariana Atencio and Yannis Pappas from Fusion’s “The Morning Show” also came into the studio.
Lara and Sam eagerly danced, cooked and sang on “Despierta América,” despite not knowing a word of Spanish. Karla and Raúl, on the other hand, spoke entirely in English during their time on GMA and quickly mastered the New York pace.
