Google Glasses Parachute Stunt: Prototype Gets Dramatic, Daring Demo (VIDEO)

WATCH: INSANE Google Glasses Demonstration

Google wanted to catch your attention with the announcement of the Google Glass Explorer prototype, so they tossed an employee out of a plane.

“We have something special for you,” Google co-founder Sergey Brin said at the Google I/O 2012 conference. “It’s a little time sensitive. This could go wrong in about 500 ways. Who wants to see a demo of Glass?”

The employee wearing Google "glasses" device on his face then jumped into the sky, parachuting down to the conference building's roof. All the while, a nervous audience was able to view his perspective of the jump in real-time via the Google Glass prototype.

"This is one of the most insane things I've ever seen at a tech demo," Jason Gilbert said in a live blog of the events for The Huffington Post. "We're now watching someone plummet toward earth, through the camera on their Google Glasses."

After the skydiving demonstration, Glass wearers propelled down the conference center's building and biked into the auditorium to massive applause.

It was certainly a nail-biting experience!

Brin then listed off several statistics about Google Glass, giving the audience more information on the product's technical features. The device's camera capture records video as well as still. There's also a touchpad on one side of the frames. Brin said there will be a "pretty powerful processor" and "multiple radios for digital communication," too.

The Google Glass Explorer prototype is available for pre-order today, though it is meant for I/O developers only, not the average consumer. The price is $1,500. Google expects to release the devices sometime early next year.
