Google Music Scam Invites Already Making The Rounds

Scammers Target Google Music Beta Invites

Google announced its Music Beta service on Tuesday, and scammers have already started trying to cash in.

Mashable reports that phony invites to Google's new service have already appeared on the web. These scams purportedly offer spare invites and access to the cloud-based beta, which lets you store and stream 20,000 songs for free.

Users of the beta don't get spare invites to send to friends and family. "Any person or website claiming to be “giving away” Google Music invites is lying, a fact we’ve just confirmed with Google representatives," warns Mashable.

So be careful about clicking links that aren't directly from Google.

To sign up for this service (legitimately), head to music.google.com, register, and settle in for the wait -- while incessantly refreshing your email -- like the rest of us. Unless you go out and buy a XOOM or happen to be attending the Google I/O conference, Google's registration site is the only way to get an invite.
