Despite a loyal following, late Wednesday night Google tried to put down Google Reader, its longtime RSS reader, quietly. Judging by the scorn online that followed, it appears Google didn't do a very good job of offing Google Reader without a struggle from users.
The demise of the service left many groups searching for alternatives. This includes a wide range of journalists, citizens looking to get around government censorship or workers who can't go on ESPN.com because they should be "working" or something like that.

Luckily for the passionate RSS users out there, there's a solid pool of alternatives to the beloved Google Reader.
