Vidal's first book was published when he was just 19, and he's starred in movies such as Gattaca, Bob Roberts and With Honors after running for congress in 1960 and California governor in 1982. His cousin is Al Gore and his step-sister is Jaqueline Kennedy. Vidal purchased his Outpost Estates home in 1977 for a mere $149,500 and is now asking for $3.495 million for the private Mediterranean property.
