A new restaurant in Denver is offering diners a slice of the high life. Gourmet Ganja, in the heart of Denver's medical marijuana district, also serves as a marijuana dispensary for patients with a doctor's prescription. Chefs at the restaurant bake the bud right into dishes from pizza and paella to chocolate mousse.

Steve Horowitz -- co-owner of Ganja Gourmet--told CBS 4 in Denver he hopes "to help distribute medicinal marijuana to those licensed to have it and provide an atmosphere where patients can visit with one another in a safe environment."

A voter referendum in 2000 made it legal for licensed pot providers to sell medical marijuana in Colorado. A lack of regulation has paved the way for some creative marijuana business strategies. Denver's weekly alternative, Westword, even solicited freelance pot critics to write reviews of dispensaries.

A recent flood of new marijuana dispensary openings has prompted calls for increased regulation of the industry. The state legislature is expected to introduce a bill during the 2010 legislative session that will drastically increase oversight of medical marijuana facilities.

Horowitz told the Denver Post that the new regulations will alter his business plan, but he doesn't expect new regulations to shut down his business.
