I'm behind & listened to the actual Trump transcript first time today - 'Grab them by the pussy'. Felt sick. Also, familiar. The nasty simple belief behind those comments - that women are not equally human, that we are kind of dim sex balloon animals - is widely shared. All women recognise that way he's talking. I was taught by men who feel like him, I heard that stuff at school, university, it's in plays, the violence against women in tv, films, a bias in reviews, in casting. In politics, press & people. You listen to that clip & it's not surprising - he obviously talks like that every day, thank god it was recorded & I hope it destroys him. But also, I hope it shines a light on all the good old 'locker room' chats elsewhere - that jokey tone that is really aggressive and threatening, rating how fit women are, tits & ass, & grabbing pussy, about women being dumb, sentimental & needy. And the total assumed right to judge. That women can be rated, judged & obtained like goods. The right of an old crazy man to sit in a bus & sexually devour & decimate the women he drives past. (Trump seems to say about another women on the pavement - 'Move out the way shorty - so I can see those legs'). Imagine Barack & Michelle Obama listening to that? They must have been thrilled as it'll finish him off, but sad as they, with their two lovely daughters, speak with the voices of balance & integrity, and yet this nasty voice of inequality & aggression is so pervasive it still has a chance of coming back.
