The Heartbreaking Reason This Woman Is Trying To Find Her Grandmother's Long Lost Friends

When Nicolle Munson's grandma was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Nicolle knew she had to do something to cheer her up.

Grandma Ann, 71, "was very upset when the doctors told her," she told The Huffington Post in an email.

Nicolle recalled that, years ago, her grandmother had mentioned trying to find some old friends she and her husband had lost touch with around 40 years ago.

Ann and her husband, David Munson, had befriended Cathy and John Maloney when they lived in London. David and John worked together in a wallpaper factory while their wives went to work in a sewing factory. The couples were good friends until the Munsons moved back to Ireland. But Ann always held on to a photo of the couple.

"I was sitting in my grandparents' house and [had] seen the photo. It was just after I found out about the cancer, so I decided to try Facebook and find them," Nicolle said.

She posted details of her search for the Maloneys on Facebook and, before long, various publications had picked up the story in an effort to help Nicolle find her grandma's old friends.

"She told me she would be delighted if they were found, she would love to see them again," Nicolle said. "She seems to be in good humor, but she has her days where she's really down."

Nicolle says her search has, so far, been unsuccessful. But she remains hopeful. Currently Ann is in a Dublin hospital awaiting test results so doctors can determine their next steps. Around 20 years ago, she fought and survived esophageal cancer.

Anyone who knows Cathy and John Maloney is asked to reach out to Nicole at nicollem14@gmail.com. We wish Nicolle and Ann the best of luck.
