Woman Stabbed Infant She Believed Was The Antichrist

A 39-year-old Elmhurst woman stabbed her infant grandson because she believed he was the Antichrist, prosecutors say.

Sandra Clanton was arrested last Saturday, and charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery of a child and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to FOX Chicago. She was held on $2 million bond.

The Chicago Tribune provides some of the grisly details of the attack:

"She picked up the baby, slammed its head into the sink and took a large butcher knife and began slicing the child under an eye in a sawing motion," Fisher said.

The infant's mother grabbed the child and ran to the police station while the boyfriend wrestled Clanton to the floor, he said.

The nine-month-old boy was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were only minor, CBS reported.

Clanton is being held at a mental health facility. She was first held by the Elmhurst police, but was sent to the treatment facility after slamming her head against a table several times, and attempting to cut her wrists with a bottle cap.

She will undergo a full psychological examination once a public defender has been assigned to her case, according to the Tribune.
