Great White Shark In Venice Beach, Calif. (VIDEO)

WATCH: Great White Shark Spotted In Venice Beach

Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water...

A massive great white shark was spotted three miles off the coast of Venice Thursday evening, making circles around a small fishing boat in Marina Del Rey.

Resident Nico Schwarcz, who was on his friend's 18-foot fishing boat, told KTLA that the shark was "definitely a big enough shark to knock the boat over." The shark, whom Schwarcz called, "big daddy," convinced him and his friends to head back to shore -- but not before it left a few bite marks on the boat's motor.

This isn't the first great white sighting in California this summer. In July, a kayaker was attacked by a great white shark near Capitola, about 100 miles south of San Francisco, but he escaped without a scratch. But despite this recent incident, great white shark attacks are generally few and far between, and their primary diet consists of dolphins, sea lions and seals, notes Reuters.
