Did Texas Governor Greg Abbott Just Jinx The Astros?

Abbott congratulated the Astros on their victory in the 7th inning. They went on to blow the game.

Baseball fans, like those of most sports, are incredibly superstitious. They know that acknowledging a no-hitter or claiming a victory prematurely is a huge faux pas.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's (R) staffers apparently aren't big MLB fans.

On Monday, the governor's official Twitter account congratulated the Houston Astros on their victory over the Kansas City Royals in Game 4 of the ALDS, praising the Texas team for advancing to the American League Championship Series for the first time in franchise history.

But that's not what happened.

Abbott's tweet was posted -- and quickly deleted -- during the 7th inning, when the Astros were enjoying a four-run lead over the Royals. But Kansas City rallied in the top of 8th, scoring 5 runs and forcing a series-deciding Game 5 in Missouri.

Fans roasted the governor on Twitter, and even Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) got in on the action:

As The Houston Chronicle noted, the potentially-jinxing tweet came from the Twitter account run by the governor's office. A retort from Abbott's "personal twitter feed," @GregAbbott_TX, later weighed in:

Are Abbott's cursing powers on par with Lil B's? We'll find out Wednesday, when the Astros and Royals play the final game of the series.
