The Second Amendment may not have much to do with your daily cappuccino. But on Friday, some gun rights activists plan to descend on Starbucks, bringing the coffee chain face-to-face with the nationwide debate on gun control.
Starbucks does not prohibit customers from openly carrying guns in states where it is legal, and in an effort to show thanks for this policy, some activists have designated Friday, February 22, "Gun Owners Support Starbucks" Day.
More than 1,000 people plan to participate, according to a Facebook event page, and 700 people like the movement's Facebook page.
"Some anti-gunners wanted citizens such like myself kicked out of Starbucks for carrying a gun and Starbucks said, 'Hey, we’re here to sell cakes and coffees,'" Ed Levine, an organizer of the event, told WNEW.
"Where laws can permit open carry, our stores permit it. Where laws don't permit open carry, our stores prohibit it," Zack Hutson, a spokesman for Starbucks, told The Huffington Post. "We encourage customer and advocacy groups from both sides to share their input with public officials."
