Gustav Klimt's Strange Rock Opera And Other Artists We'd Love To See On Broadway (SLIDESHOW)

Artists Who Would Make Broadway Hits

This year, gold leaf master and notorious casanova Gustav Klimt celebrates his 150th anniversary. New York is celebrating with a retrospective of Klimt's golden years at the Neue Galerie. We thought that was the perfect gift until Vienna unveiled theirs: a rock opera at the Künstlerhaus.

"Gustav Klimt: The Musical" is opening in Austria's capital on September 2, acting out Klimt's passionate love affairs and family drama to the tune of some pretty awkward rock music. The evidence is in the trailer above. While Mark Rothko's life story was immortalized in the drama "Red," we rarely ever see our favorite painters get to belt it out B-way style. We were so excited that we began thinking of other artists we think were destined to become Broadway smash hits. Whether because of their subject, style or dramatic life story, these are the artists we think would make musicals that would bring the house down.
