There's no denying the importance of SPF in our daily lives. But when we're not explicitly on a beach, it's easy to forget. And if we're being completely honest, sometimes we don't like how it feels on our skin. So when we heard about a cleanser that also has SPF 30, we were intrigued...and hopeful. Could this be the end of sticky sunscreen?
What it is: The first FDA-approved SPF product of its kind, this milky cleanser does everything your normal face soap does and also deposits encapsulated sunscreen on your skin after it's rinsed off. Wait, what?!
How it works: According to the dermatologist who spent five years developing the product, the SPF stays put because it's positively charged while your skin is negatively charged, which binds the sunscreen to the surface. So essentially it's a case of opposites attracting.
How you use it: In order for the sunscreen to be properly activated, you have to massage the cleanser onto your face for at least two minutes. Once the two minutes are up, rinse and pat skin dry (making sure not to rub) and skip any toners or exfoliators, as they will remove some of the protection. Moisturize as usual.
The catch: Now, this magical little invention is a good way to protect against incidental sun damage (say, sitting near a window or walking to your car). But if you plan on being outdoors for an extended time or in direct sunlight, you should still use a traditional form of SPF.
