Hadiya Pendleton's Parents Discuss Gun Violence After Violent Weekend In Chicago (VIDEO)

With more than three dozen people shot and seven dead, this past weekend marked the most violent in Chicago this year. Despite a decline in homicides after a particularly lethal 2012, the city has been marred by a number of horrific instances of gun violence, leaving innocent victims caught in the crossfire.

One victim, 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, was tragically shot and killed in a park in the city's South Side neighborhood. Her death added to the fury in the fight for gun control, as the death toll in Chicago and in city's around the country rose.

Hadiya's parents, Nathaniel and Cleopatra Pendleton, spoke with HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont HIll about the latest incidents of violence, calling the repeated instances "heart wrenching."

"I think the big picture is the fact that there are issues with guns and the violence that's happening out there is all of our problem," Cleopatra Pendleton said. "I think that's the big thing that Nate and I have taken from this experience. Many of us walk around in a bubble like if we do what we're supposed to do in terms of rearing our children, and making sure that they're not part of the problem, that we're doing enough. And it's not enough."
