Haitian Amputees In Need Of Walking Devices, Prosthetics

The unusually high number of amputations following the earthquake in Haiti means that Haitian amputees will need long-term aid in order to walk and function normally, MSNBC.com reports.

Aid groups are already raising money and collecting donations of used prosthetic and walking devices to refurbish and send to Haiti. Physicians for Peace collected more than 300 carloads of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and artificial limbs in Norfolk, Va. last weekend.

Across the country, Hanger Prosthetics outlets are also collecting used devices.
