The singer Halsey is having a dynamite year. Her smash hit with The Chainsmokers, “Closer,” climbed to the top of the Billboard charts and reached near-ubiquity on the radio waves. But the 22-year-old artist has also been waging a painful battle with endometriosis all along.

Over the weekend, Halsey shared a moving image from her hospital bed after undergoing multiple surgeries to treat the condition.

“Today I braved multiple terrifying surgeries,” Halsey wrote in the caption. “The most important of which being the surgery that would hopefully treat my endometriosis. For those of you who have followed this battle of mine or who may suffer with it yourself, you know the extremes to which it can be mentally exhausting and physically painful.”

Endometriosis is a complex disorder in which uterine tissue grows outside the uterus, causing inflammation, cysts and scarring. Women with endometriosis can experience debilitating pain during menstruation and sexual activity, as well as fertility problems.

The singer admitted to being in “total agony” post-surgery, but still had a positive message to share with the #EndoWarrior community.

“If you suffer from chronic pain or a debilitating disease please know that I have found time to live a crazy, wild, rewarding life AND balance my treatment and I hope so much in my heart that you can too,” Halsey wrote. “I’m gonna be off the map for a few days but please know even if I’m not on social media I am thinking of you.”

Halsey’s followers were quick to send well wishes and messages of support.

Halsey has opened up about her struggle with endometriosis in the past. In 2016, she shared an inspiring tweet to remind fans with endometriosis that they are not alone.

Best wishes to Halsey for a swift recovery.
