50 years ago on September 18, 1965, I Dream of Jeannie debuted on NBC. In the first episode, astronaut Capt. Anthony Nelson's one-man capsule, Stardust One, crashed into a deserted island in the South Pacific. Nelson discovered, rubbed and opened a mysterious bottle to find a beautiful genie who had been trapped inside for 2,000 years. For Jeannie it was instant love. So Jeannie placed herself back into her bottle, rolled into her new master's duffle bag and headed back with him to Cocoa Beach, Florida. Neither character's life would ever be the same again. I Dream of Jeannie ran for 5 seasons and became one of the 20th Century's most beloved TV shows. Even after fifty years, the show has remained on television and can be seen around the world.

During the sitcom's run, Jeannie (Barbara Eden) exchanged some zingers with Anthony Nelson (Larry Hagman) and other characters, especially for that time. Click to this Parade story to read some great lines from the series.
