'Happy Endings': A Series Of Escalating Pranks Leads To An Unexpected Engagement (VIDEO)

'Happy Endings': Pranks And An Engagement

Perpetually single Penny may not have seemed like the likeliest candidate to get engaged on "Happy Endings," but that's exactly what happened on the first of Tuesday night's back-to-back episodes. And in true "Happy Endings" fashion, it was an event filled with shenanigans and pranks.

After getting Max on a lottery prank, he vowed revenge on the rest of the gang. The rest of the episode saw Max pulling off hilarious and elaborate pranks on each member of entire gang, but one of those got misinterpreted. Penny walked in to her apartment to find rose petals, a beautiful display and an engagement ring in her apartment. Then she got slimed.

Understandably, she thought the engagement was part of the prank, but it wasn't. Pete had set that part of it up. By the end of the episode, Max had blown up his own limo, which had been filled with popcorn in an attempt to prank him. Thus, the stage was set for a memorable proposal.

Pete got down on one knee, Penny handed him the ring that she had just fished out of the trash, and he proposed in front of the burning limo. Then, the popcorn kernels finally started popping in the blaze and the gang enjoyed a fountain of popcorn to celebrate the moment.

Back-to-back episodes of "Happy Endings" continue on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
