'Happy Endings' Season 3: Alex And Dave Will Be 'Keepin' It Cas''

A Happy Ending For 'Happy Endings' Couple?

When "Happy Endings" returns for Season 3 this fall, there will be a new-old couple.

In an interview with EW, executive producers David Caspe and Jonathan Groff revealed that Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and Dave (Zachary Knighton)-- who were last seen holding hands in the Season 2 finale -- will be dating in the new season, which picks up after the wedding.

"I think we can tease that in the premiere, they're casually dating," Caspe said. "They're 'keepin' it cas," as they say."

Groff told EW they went right to having the friend group deal with the new situation. "It will be interesting to see if a couple with that much history can actually keep it cas'," he said. "We decided to explore the ramifications on the friends immediately, as opposed to playing any episodes trying to keep it from the friends."

But what about Penny's (Casey Wilson) feelings for Dave? According to Caspe, that relationship development had been in the cards since the start of the series. "Last season, we just started to work with it a little," he said. "We didn't want to be too heavy-headed on it because I think the audience is a little weary of will-they-or-won't-they because they've seen it done a lot and also seen it done well."

Caspe and Groff said they'll still be treading lightly while developing the new relationship, especially because Alex and Penny are roommates and life-long friends. But Penny might not be alone all season. Wilson told The Huffington Post that Brian Austin Green, who appeared in the finale, might return to the series.

"He may come back. B.A.G., we call him," she said.

"Happy Endings" moves to Tuesdays at 9 p.m. this fall. Wilson is excited about the show's new timeslot. "I feel good! I'm excited we get to open the night. I love 'The Bitch In Apartment 23,'" she quipped. "I think it's so funny, so I'm excited about that."
