A longtime surfer and proponent of environmentally friendly design, he has designed and built over 100 structures, reports Vanity Fair. Gesner's Wave House, built in 1957, will seem familiar to many, as it is the inspiration for Jorn Utzon's Sydney Opera House. And among other notable projects, Gesner designed Marlon Brando's Tahitian estate, according to Dwell.
