After dedicating decades of his life to politics, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid is finally ready to exit the frenzied world of Congress. As he finishes out his final months as senator, Reid took a look back on the experiences that brought him to where he is today.

In the latest episode of The Huffington Post’s parent-child interview series Talk to Me, the Nevada native sat down with his son Rory Reid for a wide-ranging conversation about his political career, his “stupid” choice to take up boxing, his marriage, religious faith and more.

With retirement around the corner, Reid looked to the future and how he hopes to spend his time post-politics. He said he’s spoken with law firms, universities and corporations about opportunities ahead, but he got some great advice from former vice president Al Gore.

“We had a visit, just the two of us, but [Gore] came prepared,” Reid said. “He had poster boards he had written in his own handwriting, three of them, [about] what I should do with my future.”

Gore told him to take care of his health, his family and friends and then focus on how he could continue to help others.

“And he went through the list of things that I could make some money [by doing]. And then, when it was all over with, [Gore] said, ‘Then you’ve gotta figure out what you want to do that will be good for society’... It was very good advice,” Reid said.

And while Reid has built a legacy in politics, he added that he takes pride in another accomplishment ― being crowned Jon Stewart’s “worst guest” on “The Daily Show” after his appearance back in 2008.

“I can’t try to be funny and I tried to be funny and it just was a flop.” he said with a smile. “I’m glad I hold some record with his show. I have no problem with him having me as one of his all-time winners being the worst because he’s a good guy and I probably won that because I deserved it.”
