Have you set your social media resolutions for 2016?

How did your social media perform in 2015? Did you achieve your goals?

The start of a new year is always a good time to reflect and think about where you are heading and what you'd like to achieve. When it comes to social media it's a great time to revisit your strategy and set some new objectives for the year.

Here are some tips and tricks that you can use to give your social media a lift in 2016.

Revise existing or develop a new social media strategy
The start of a new year is the perfect time to revisit your social media strategy or to start one if you don't have one.

The first step is setting some objectives. What is it you want your social media to achieve this year? Also, think about who you want to reach this year. Does your target audience need tweaking?

Develop a content plan
A content plan can make your life so much easier. It will plan not just what content you're going to post but also when and to what channel/audience.

Planning ahead of time also means you can identify and capitalise on key business events, such as sales and launches, so you can make sure you have your content ready to go when it's needed.

Create great imagery that can be posted
Take some time early in the year to create fresh imagery for social media. When it comes to engaging audiences, images are just as powerful as words. An eye catching image can be the difference between engaging with audiences or not.

Investigate new social media platforms
Could 2016 be the year you try out a new platform? Maybe it's Instragram, maybe LinkedIn, maybe SnapChat? Social media platforms evolve and audiences do tend to migrate or try out new things so it could be time to do some research to see if your audience is utilising any other platforms and include these in your strategy.

Look at tools to make posting to social media easier
If you're not careful social media can take up a lot of time. Plan to work smarter not harder in 2016 and investigate some tools that can make your social media posting a lot easier. Take a look at tools such as Buffer, Hootsuite or Edgar, which can make posting easier and allow you more time to concentrate on your business.

2016 has just started and there's no better time than now to get your social media ready so you can make this year your year.
