Hayden Panettiere is nominated for her first Golden Globe award.
The surprising nominee and "Nashville" star will go up against some stiff competition in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2013 Golden Globes. Because the category includes TV comedies and drama, miniseries and made-for-TV movies, Panettiere's fellow nominees run the gamut: Archie Panjabi ("The Good Wife"), Sarah Paulson ("Game Change"), Maggie Smith ("Downton Abbey") and Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family") join her in the category.
On "Nashville," Panettiere plays country songstress Juliette Barnes, who is trying to deal with her romantic relationship with a football star, her rivalry with legendary singer Rayna James (Connie Britton) and her alcoholic mother.
Panettiere, who is now 23 years old, has been acting since the mere age of five. She started on soap operas "One Life to Live" and "Guiding Light" before earning her breakout role in "Remember the Titans" at age 10. She went on to play super-cheerleader Claire Bennet on "Heroes" for four years and recently portrayed the title character in Lifetime's "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy" before going country.
The 2013 Golden Globe nomination is presumably just what Panettiere needed: It was reported yesterday that the actress broke up with her real-life football player boyfriend Scotty McKnight.
