Headbanging, Flag-Waving Dude Returns For Hurricane Florence

People love Lane Pittman.

Lane Pittman captured the spirit of a nation two years ago when he stood defiantly in the streets of Jacksonville, Florida, to stare down Hurricane Matthew, all while brandishing an American flag and headbanging to Slayer.

Was it safe? Oh, God, no. But was it kind of cool? Yeah, it was.

Pittman has returned to stare down Hurricane Florence, which descended on the lower East Coast Thursday.

Pittman posted a new video Friday showing himself in the streets of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, standing against the strong storm winds.

“YOU ARE WEAK AND SMALL FLORENCE!!!!! FLORIDA MAN IS HERE!!!!!” Pittman’s video caption reads, as the familiar “Raining Blood” by Slayer blasts in the background.

As is evident by the 27 million views his 2016 video received on Facebook alone, people are huge fans. Even the Foo Fighters gave him a shoutout back then for his headbanging heroics.

But it isn’t always awesome metal-shredding action though, as Pittman learned earlier this year during Hurricane Alberto.

It’s a little entertaining respite from some otherwise very serious hurricanes. Florence was downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane but still carries sustained winds of 80 mph, with some gusts recording 105 mph Friday. Residents in the riverfront city of New Bern, North Carolina, relied on social media to coordinate rescue efforts for those stranded by a storm surge.

Stay safe out there, Lane.
