Heidi Cruz responded to an Internet meme that claims her husband, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), is the Zodiac Killer, saying, "There's a lot of garbage out there."

“Well, I’ve been married to him for 15 years and I know pretty well who he is, so it doesn’t bother me at all," Heidi Cruz told Yahoo of her husband, one of three candidates left in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

Cruz told Yahoo "it's amazing" that people play up the Internet meme, blaming its popularity on the media.

In fact, Ted Cruz is not the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified murderer who targeted several people in Northern California in the 1960s and '70s. Cruz was born two years after the first murders took place.

Comedian Larry Wilmore joked about the meme at the 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday.

“Come on, that’s absurd," Wilmore said. "Some people actually liked the Zodiac Killer.”

The Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling even conducted a poll on the issue in February, finding that 38 percent of Florida voters think it's possible Cruz is the Zodiac Killer.

Unfortunately for Cruz, the Zodiac Killer isn't the only negative thing he's been called lately. Former House Speaker John Boehner recently called Cruz "Lucifer in the flesh," saying the senator is a "miserable son of a bitch."
