Helen Mirren Has Some Truly Excellent Advice For The Daughters She Never Had

If Helen Mirren had daughters, she knows exactly what very important lesson she would have taught them.

In a July 20th interview with the Daily Mail, Mirren opened up about dealing with sexism in the entertainment industry throughout her career. She told the Mail that her hypothetical daughters would have been taught to be more assertive at standing up to this treatment than she was:

If I’d had children and had a girl, the first words I would have taught her would have been “f*** off” because we weren’t brought up ever to say that to anyone, were we? And it’s quite valuable to have the courage and the confidence to say, “No, f*** off, leave me alone, thank you very much.” You see, I couldn’t help saying “Thank you very much,” I just couldn’t help myself.

Over the years, Mirren seems to have honed and perfected the ability to not give a damn what others think. In February she showed up on the red carpet with pink hair, inspired by one of the contestants on "America's Next Top Model."

"I'm too old to ask people permission to do things anymore," she told Jay Leno when he asked her whether she'd told her husband that she planned to dye her hair.

Helen Mirren: eternally a badass.
