Herbalife Triathlon In LA: 2012 Street Closures For Sunday, Sept. 30

MAP: Hard Street Closures For Sunday's Triathlon

Westsiders could be in for even more of a "carpocalyptic" traffic scenario this weekend because of the Herbalife Triathlon, which will result in hard road closures along major boulevards in LA Sunday morning.

The triathlon, which starts at around 7:15 a.m., will take over parts of Venice Boulevard, Fairfax Avenue, and Olympic Boulevard all the way to the finish line at the LA Live Nokia Plaza.

Jan Fambro, who handles media relations for the triathlon, told Zev's blog that the event date had been locked in before Carmageddon 2 details were announced. Approximately 2,500 people from all over the world are coming to LA for the competition, and Fambro is keeping a stiff upper lip about how it could impact regional traffic in addition to Carmageddon 2.

“These were the cards that we had been dealt and we had no choice but to pick ‘em up and play,” said Fambro.

Here are the hard closures for Sunday's triathlon:

  • Venice Blvd. from the beach to Fairfax Ave. (approx. 6:50 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.)
  • Fairfax Ave. between Venice Blvd. and Olympic Blvd. (approx. 6:50 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.)
  • Olympic Blvd. from Fairfax Ave. to Flower and 11th Sts. (approx. 7:10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.)
  • Grand Ave. between Flower and 11th Sts. to 1st St. (approx. 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
