Hercules The Lion Strikes Goofy Pose For Wildlife Sanctuary Visitor (PHOTO)

LOOK: This Lion Is OVER IT

Meet Hercules.

He's a goofy lion at the Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Spearfish, S.D., and it looks like he's over posing stoically for pictures.

(Story Continues Below)

A visitor's friend posted the shot on the sanctuary's Facebook page last March, but on Tuesday, it resurfaced on Reddit after a user called Batharga submitted it.

Fellow Redditors' comments show that goofball Hercules is pretty well known to locals.

"This particular Barbary lion's story is pretty cool," Redditor znibbor wrote. "He was originally purchased as a cub to be a pet for two little girls that lived in a high rise apartment in midtown Manhattan... The girls shared a room and had a bunk bed where the lion also slept."

According to znibbor, when Hercules began to grow and get aggressive, the girls' mother decided he couldn't stay there anymore.

"So, he wound up in Spearfish along with a ton of other abused big cats and bears," znibbor added. "When he arrived at the sanctuary, he wouldn't sleep when the other cats did and was constantly on edge and nervous. They eventually realized the connection the lion had to the bed. So in his pen, he has an enormous, wooden 'bunk bed' where he now sleeps."

The Huffington Post reached out to Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary to confirm znibbor's story about Hercules, but we are yet to hear back.

For now, we'll just enjoy the playful lion's photo.
