High School Musical Chairs II

When all your friends read that article in the paper, they may think Milo is turning his back on the people whose hard work and contributions helped to get him elected. That's going to make it tough for him to function as an effective student leader when all this fuss over Barry dies down.

Dear Aunt Beth
,

Hey, hold up. I just read that letter from Worried, the girl who thinks she should be our school's delegate to the Model United Nations because she held a couple bake sales for our student body president, "Milo."

Well, pardon my French, but WTF? Where was Little Miss Bake Sale when Milo was running for student body president, back when we were freshmen? Where was she when my friends and me were out selling magazine subscriptions and overpriced wrapping paper? If it wasn't for me and my friends, Milo wouldn't even be student body president today. Not to mention all the years I've been helping him with his Spanish homework. If anybody's gonna replace "Barry," it oughta be ME.

I am NOT gonna take this lying down. Milo's been hitting "ignore" every time I try to call him and discuss this, so last weekend I talked to a friend of mine who works for the school newspaper. I told him straight out that I want Barry's spot at the Model UN, and I expect Milo to man up and talk to me about it.

If Milo picks one of his new school nerd buddies over me, I have sold my last roll of Holiday Reindeer Giftwrap, and so have all my friends.

After all I've done to help Milo, don't you think I deserve to represent our school at the Model UN?

Signed,

Mad as He**

Dear Mad,

I can certainly understand why you're so upset. (Or, as you young folks might say, I feel you, dawg.)

You certainly have demonstrated your school spirit by helping Milo with his fundraisers, and I'm sure you and your friends have made your school a better place through all your good efforts. It must be very disappointing to think that a longtime friend has taken advantage of your loyalty and hard work - but now won't even take your calls.

But I'm worried that you're getting angry, which could lead you to make decisions you will regret later. You may not have thought of this, but that article in the school paper could put Milo in an embarrassing pickle. When all your friends read that article in the paper, they may think Milo is turning his back on the people whose hard work and contributions helped to get him elected. That's going to make it tough for him to function as an effective student leader when all this fuss over Barry dies down.

I'm sure Milo is trying to pick the very best person to replace Barry, and I know that's what you want, too. If Milo is really your friend, he deserves your support as he struggles with this tough decision.

Good luck, and let me know how this turns out. (Gosh, you kids have an interesting school!)

Sincerely,

Aunt Beth
