High-Speed Chase Suspect Killed On Live TV

A suspect led authorities on a 25-minute, high-speed chase in Houston on Wednesday. The chase ended with the suspect being fatally shot.

After several minutes of a high speed pursuit, during which the driver eluded police by going around several patrol cars and driving into the grass, the chase came to a crashing halt. The suspect slammed into another vehicle at an intersection on Wallisville near Uvalde, then spun into another vehicle. EMS crews are attending to the occupants of those vehicles. The extent of their injuries are unknown.

In live footage shown on KTRK, the as-yet unidentified suspect got out of his damaged car, then reached back into his vehicle. That's when authorities shot and killed him on live TV.

The chase began after a routine traffic stop.

The final stages of the chase took place near Harvard Elementary and North Shore Middle schools, the Houston Chronicle. reports.

The schools went into lockdown for 30 minutes as a precaution, according to Jonathan Frey, spokesman for the Galena Park Independent School District.

"The primary focus was, let's make sure everyone is safe," Frey said. "It didn't take too long to ascertain that. There was nobody fleeing the scene."
