President Barack Obama sat down for a joint interview on "60 Minutes" with outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the weekend. This provided a unique occasion to reflect upon the accomplishments and shortcomings of the Obama administration's first-term foreign policy, and inquire about the challenges that Clinton's successor, John Kerry, will face in the second term. Naturally, what everybody ended up talking about is "OMGZ DID OBAMA JUST ENDORSE HILLARY IN 2016?!?"
Naturally, Obama provided everyone with the chance to sort of laugh about it and move on, admonishing Steve Kroft thusly: "You know, Steve, I gotta tell you, the -- you guys in the press are incorrigible. I was literally inaugurated four days ago. And you're talking about elections four years from now."
"Well, since the president has already called us incorrigible," said MSNBC's Krystal Ball, "we should probably demonstrate some reasoned perspective and talk about the difficult tasks that the Obama administration will have to face in the next four years, including a resurgent al Qaeda threat in North Africa, the continuing tempest of the Arab Spring, and a Eurozone economy that has multiple nations perpetually on the edge of a political meltdown."
Ha, just kidding! She actually said, "Well, since the president has already called us incorrigible, we might as well live up to the title." No, no! You actually aren't obligated to live up to that "title!" Guys?
Here's a fun fact: there are actually more than 600 days between now and the 2014 election that we have to survive before we get to the part where there are merely just over 700 days until the 2016 election, in which Clinton may or may not run -- nobody knows! But there is a super PAC out there that seems oriented toward a possible Clinton run, so the time is ripe for all manner of speculation, anticipation, constipation ... basically, all of your 2016-themed "-ations."
So, did Obama endorse Clinton? Or didn't he? And what about lonely Joe Biden?
