Could Hoda Kotb Replace Ann Curry On 'Today'?

Could the perfect replacement for Ann Curry be boozing it up daily with Kathie Lee Gifford?

News broke last week that NBC News was reportedly planning to replace Curry, who ascended to the role of co-host last June after spending fourteen years as the show's newsreader.

Though Savannah Guthrie, who hosts the 9:00 a.m. hour of "Today," is widely rumored to replace Curry, another "Today" host is getting a lot of attention: Hoda Kotb, who currently presides with Gifford over the show's wine-soaked fourth hour.

It seems as though, everywhere you look, someone is talking about Kotb.

Though the fourth hour of "Today" consists primarily of soft news, Kotb has a background in reporting hard news, giving her the versatility that is so crucial for "Today" co-hosts to possess. Her pairing with the unpredictable live-wire that is Gifford has also made her very fast on her feet — another important attribute.

The New York Times reported that Kotb was on call to fill in for Curry last Thursday, should she not show up for work after news broke that the network was reportedly looking for a replacement.

Rumors also surfaced that if Kotb were to replace Curry, it would leave an opening for Gifford's former co-host, Regis Philbin, to enter the picture.

Philbin and Gifford reunited last week as co-hosts for the first time in twelve years when the former "Live! With Regis and Kelly" host filled in for Kotb.

When asked if she would ever switch hours and replace Curry, Kotb said, "I'm actually joyful where I am."
