This May Be The Best Tip To Avoid Drinking Too Much Over The Holidays

The Perfect Method To Avoid Drinking Too Much Over The Holidays

Against the white backdrop of snow this holiday season is the company of friends, family... and booze. Lots and lots of booze. But instead of sabotaging your fitness goals with caloric alcoholic beverages, here's a simple tip that could keep you happy and healthy during all the festivities.

A few numbers to consider: A glass of pinot noir can have as many as 200 calories, a hot toddy comes in at 164 calories and a simple gin and tonic can set you back nearly 150 calories.

Food and nutrition expert Dawn Blatner has a solution that she calls the "1-2 punch." For every alcoholic drink Blatner has, she follows it with two alcohol-free options -- her favorite being a zero-calorie alternative.

"I am obsessed with club soda with a few dashes of bitters," Blatner told HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski. "Bitters do have a lot of alcohol, but you're not drinking very much ... so it's alcohol-free and calorie-free and has a little flavor."

Blatner said the bitter-infused soda "feels like something special for the holidays," and with her "1-2 punch" solution, she's only drinking one alcoholic drink for every three beverages she consumes.
